“What is in your hand?” I asked my little grandson.
“A big ball,” was his answer.
“Open your hands let’s see it,” I said. He proudly opened his hand
and there was a purple grape!
In his little mind’s perception, the grape looked like a big ball. What is in your hand today? We could jumble those words a little and ask,“Whose hand is in yours today?” Is it the nail pierced one? Or is it the hand of the prince of this fallen world?
The evil one puts all sorts of worldly attractions in our hands so that we slip away from the Holy one. The bright shiny attractions are so strong that our hands slip away from the firm grip of the Heavenly Father and we fall into the crafty one’s abyss of sin.
In the parable of the sower found in Mark 4:3-8(KJV) the seeds are compared to the word of God or the gospel. We can also compare them to the way we run our lives in this world.
“Hearken: Behold, there went out a sower to sow: And it came to pass as he sowed, some fell by the wayside and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.” Some people are like that, their minds are not on the word of God and they are consumed by the worldly attractions and lose their salvation.
“And some fell on stony ground where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.” So many of us are like that. We are so jubilant when we first hear the word and all excited. But as the days go by we become wishy-washy and when we have to stand for our faith we wither away as rootless plants.
“And some fell among thorns and the thorns grew up, and chocked it, and it yielded no fruit.” Nobody likes thorns because they hurt us. Satan puts thorns in our path in the form of trials and we fall easily because we are not in God’s protective hands.
“And other fell on good ground and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty and some sixty and some an hundred.” The seed that fell to the good ground - straight from the hand of God into a willing heart was the one that yielded the harvest that God was looking for.
I saw a painting where the artist had painted strong hands that were holding a nest with a mother bird seated on three tiny eggs. The fragile eggs were protected by the mother bird that in turn needed the protection from the strong hands of God. He holds the whole world and all that lives in it, in His mighty hands.
When does a child that is learning to walk fall down? When he or she leaves the grip of the father’s hand, he tumbles down. It is the same with us too. We slip and slide in the murky waters of sin when we lose the grip of our Heavenly Father’s hands.
Every creature depends on the Father for sustenance. He is the Almighty and no one can ever escape from His presence. He is the Alpha and the Omega the beginning and the end and we have to be in His Hands till eternity.
