Far below, in a broad meadow, a single green bud pushes up through the earth, tasting its first rays of sun.
Still there is silence.
Day by day, the bud grows taller, nourished by the light it seeks. Then, one day, it stands tall above the surrounding grasses, and the bud begins to split.
Still there is silence.
As more time passes, the bud continues to open; until, one bright afternoon, the profusion of yellow petals is fully revealed. The sun shines down on the new dandelion, its rays radiating outwards from the flower. The beauty is unimaginable.
Still, there is silence.
With time, the dandelion begins to whither, the bright yellow petals fading, and falling off. The split bud pulls into itself, almost as if mourning beauty lost.
Still, there is silence.
Then, early one morning, this flower has changed. No longer is it simply a withdrawn bud, now it stands tall again, with a head of white beckoning to the wind. A breeze comes, gently shaking the stalk.
Still, there is silence.
That afternoon, the dandelion finds it is no longer alone in the meadow. A human family has come for a picnic, and they set up their meal no more than ten feet from the white ball.
Still, there is silence.
At the end of the meal a little girl – no more than three years old – stands up and begins to toddle into the grass surrounding the blanket. She sees the white puffball the dandelion has become, and moves toward it with a look of wonder on her face. Slowly, she reaches down and plucks the dandelion from its stem.
Still, there is silence.
She brings the flower close to her face, examining it with eyes of purest blue. Slowly, she begins to sniff, attempting to get a whiff of the perfume she knows comes with all flowers. Instead, a single seed comes loose from the dandelion, irritating her tender nose, and she sneezes. Immediately all of the seeds leap from their anchors on the head of the dandelion, forming a cloud around the little girl. She looks around her in surprise, then begins to giggle and shriek in delight as she jumps up and down, trying to catch these tiny wonders she has discovered.
Silence reigns no longer. All of heaven has seen the smile on the face of the Maker, at the sight of one of His children enjoying His creation. Cheers and applause erupt from the ranked angels as the Maker’s laughter echoes throughout His Kingdom. The celebration continues until one day, in a broad meadow, a single green bud pushes up through the earth, tasting its first rays of sun…
