Topic: Write for the HUMOR Genre (10/09/14)
Who me?
Me write humor?

Sorry but it’s not going to happen. I mean – how could I ever write something funny? I’m the last person who could write on the topic, right? For one thing, making jokes is hard work. Very hard work. Don’t you see? To actually write them must be even harder. Right?

What do you think? Hmmm…I've just begun to ponder upon this weighty subject. Let me think….let me muse upon it. Ah… A few sparkly thoughts are slowly drifting my way – sunbeams moving from a brilliant golden sun to a dense little cloud. I'd forgotten. I'd forgotten for a moment that I’m a deep, steep, complex, creative, composite creature. That there are numerous sides to me. Have you met them all?

There’s my philosophical side but also my impish side.
The quaint side but also the crazy side.
The boring side but also the interesting side.
And yes, even a funny uproarious humor filled quirky side, I might add.
You know, it’s true. I am not a simple straight-laced tedious creation after all.

How could I be boring? The God of all creation created me. And He is never boring.
So perhaps writing for the humor genre is not out of my reach. What do you think?

Here’s why I’d choose to write for the humor genre. I know that the God who created little old me is big on laughter and big on fun. He created that special commodity we call “joy” – the irrepressible emotion which bubbles from within like a fountain that rises; splashes; and surprises. He gifts us with songs within and symphonies without; He created the ant and the mammoth; the pesky fly and the buzzing mosquito. Don’t you catch a glimpse into His impish side through it all? He made the world. All of it. (And the Universe too, don’t forget.) He had the mind boggling idea of filling it with many varieties of living creatures. And what a lot of them there were!

There was you.
There was me.
And there were lots more beside.

I can picture His unbridled joy as He created us all – the little mouse and the gigantic whale. The striking rainbow fish and the awe inspiring eagle. The infinitesimal ladybird and the smiling dolphin. He even stopped once a day to soak in all of His creation. He gazed at all of it. And then… and then…He pronounced it very good.

The God of all creation doesn't make any mistakes, does He? So I’m sure He’s tucked some of His special brand of humor inside this little creature, however small, however nondescript. After all, I was made in His image. A chip off the old block. No doubt about it. Did you know that all the wonderful, clean humor in the world was His idea? It was. All that’s in us and around us comes through Him.

So His special brand of humor can then be pulled out of me at will, as a magician pulls out of his top-hat, long strong reams of colorful cloth one after the other.
There’s more. And more. And more. Can you perceive it?

“Write for the humor genre”. You know, I do like the sound of that. It smacks of fun. Of joy. I do enjoy making people laugh. I love to inspire them to great heights of joy. If I get a chuckle out of someone, it’s a day worth living. So please remember. I’m not a humorless straight laced person after all. Truly I’m not. I love life. I laugh a lot. And you know what? I might even giggle over your jokes – no matter how dry; even if I’d heard them before.

Yes, writing for the humor genre sounds fun.
Do count me in.

I really like the paragraph that begins with: “Write for the humor genre”. You know, I do like the sound of that. It smacks of fun. Of joy..." To me that sounds like a great opening line for the article.
This is an article you could move paragraphs around and try new things with - see what evolves from it. Experiment and have fun!

I like the way you put a different spin on this topic by talking about whether or not you have a humorous streak. After hearing how you had decided to try humour though, I found myself wanting to read one of your humorous stories in the future. Good luck in trying out that genre.

I enjoyed "listening in" as you worked through the idea of doing something that sounded like it was out of your comfort zone. God does give us that sense of humor and writing is a great way to put it to use. Great job :)
