I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WALKS THE HILLS
HE BIDS ME TO CLIMB WITH HIM ALOFT
I CAN GO SO FAR BUT I NEED TO REST
HE WOULD PUSH AHEAD TO REACH THE CREST
BUT HE STOPS AND PATIENTLY WAITS SO OFT
I HOLD HIM BACK, I LET HIM DOWN
AS HE STANDS TO GAZE UPON THE HEIGHTS FARTHER ON HE'D BE UP THE TRAIL
IF NOT FOR ME, MY STRENGTH TO FAIL
HE'D SEE THE SUMMITS MANY SIGHTS
THE DAY IS SPENT, THE SUN IS SET
YOU'D THINK HE'D HIKED HIS PERSONAL BEST
IN GLOWING TERMS HE DESCRIBES THE DAY
OF ALL WE WITNESSED ALONG THE WAY
AS WE SEEK OUR PLACE OF EVENING REST
GOD, IN MY FRIEND, REVEALED TO ME
JUST WHAT HE OFFERS FROM ABOVE
THE HAND OF FELLOWSHIP, NOT SHAME
THE BEAUTY OF THE DAY, NOT BLAME
HIS PATIENT AND UNDYING LOVE
