I’d Walk A Mile

I’d walk a mile for a friend
Who has been there when I
Couldn’t walk any more
Or see light at the end

Of the tunnel I trod
When the journey felt long
And my hope was in shreds
And my strength was all gone

And I needed a hand
Just to help for a while;
An encouraging word
Or a hug, or a smile.

See, we all go through moments
Of burdens and pain
When it’s seems there’s no reason
To get up again,

And the fear of failure
Seems more than it’s worth
To invest any effort
And rise from the earth.

That’s the moment a friend
Can make so much difference
Even if they can’t save
Or speak in my defence –

Just to not feel so lonely
Is sometimes enough
To revive weary spirits.
Encouraged by love.

So the fallen gets up and
Says, “OK, I’ll try
Even if I don’t want to
Or understand why.”

So, once I’m on my feet and
I’m walking again,
Let me reach out my hand
For my faltering friend.
