Scott walked up to the podium cleared his throat a said, “Good evening and welcome. As a Christian publisher I want to be accountable to the readers. You are the reason that the Harold exists. What I wrote was opinion based on public records in there tax statement that Caring Hearts has to have as public record as a non profit charity. I had major concerns about Bill Nelson the CEO of caring hearts . 25 percent pay increase at the same time cutting back their hours. Please state your name when you ask a question. Is there questions?”
“Scott, my name is Angela; this has been a valuable ministry for the community for years.
How can you take a pot shot at this ministry? ”
Scott looked into her eyes and said, “Thank you for your question, I am very concerned about the donors. I want this ministry to survive. When I wrote my editorial I had to consider all of those donors who work hard and sacrifice to give to this ministry.”
Angela got this angry look on her face and responded, “You’re not pro-life. You don’t care about abortion.”
Scott shook his head in disbelief, “I respectfully disagree with you, our newspaper is pro-life. We have always covered the pro-life issue fairly. I am just concerned about how they are spending there money.”
Angela rebutted, “This ministry has helped many people. Don’t you care about that?”
“Yes I do, I want to see mothers be able to get the help they need. This ministry should not about money; it should be about helping pregnant moms. They are cutting their hours while the top executive is getting a huge pay increase. If you’re a Christian non profit, you need to be more accountable to the donors, as well you haft to be accountable to the Lord, “said Scott.
Angela just shook her head and sat back down. The rest of the night was not as contentious and people came to understand Scott's heart on the position.
