Who is anger, that he can creep into my house
While my spirit is asleep?
He comes when I least expect him.
He comes when I’m selfish and weak.
Who is anger, that he attacks my heart,
Leaving me helpless to his ploy?
He comes in the dark times
When life has lost its joy.
Who is anger, that he causes cracks in my soul?
Takes peace away with his lies
Deceiving me to believe I have every right to be ugly,
Becoming someone I despise.
Who is anger that makes my heart bitter,
Who turns me from my Lord,
Who causes me to think only about me,
Who keeps me from God’s Word?
Who is anger that causes me not to see?
He blinds my eyes to love and grace.
Anger brings with him pride and selfishness
And strips away all of my faith.
Anger gives me a choice that I must make,
The decision is entirely up to me
I can let him in my heart
Or walk away and turn the other cheek.
Anger only has power and life
When I open up the door.
But if I guard my heart from him
I won’t be trapped by his lure.
Who is anger? Not a friend of mine.
I will not welcome him into my life
No, I turn to Jesus and choose love’s way
Anger’s power lost in the beauty of God’s light.
