Jane came home late that evening after attending a youth meet. Her mother was waiting for her at the dinner table. Jane was wondering how to open up with her mother that she had become a Christian, that day .She was afraid. How would her mother react? Her mother Margaret is a strict and religious lady. Will she be able to accept Jane’s faith and her decisions that would come thereafter?

Jane kept quiet during dinner. She didn’t share her faith. Her conversations with her mom were casual; sharing about the day. Margaret appeared joyful rather than her usual stern look. This change had been there in her for a week; and Jane had been observing this. She did not give much thought to it as she had been busy with her college exams. Though it crossed over her mind at times, she was not next to her mom to clarify it with her.

Jane somehow wanted to convey her faith to her mom. But days passed. Both Jane and Margaret were busy with their college and work. Jane was equally curious to find about her mom’s new change, so she made up her mind to sit with her and talk to her about it soon after exams.

Jane was not able to fix a time with her mom, as Margaret stayed out often after work. Jane grew a little suspicious of her. Margaret spent a lot of time over the phone, locked herself in the room and was always cheerful and happy. Though it was nice to see her mom change for good, Jane could not just digest it; for she had never seen her orthodox prejudiced mom like this. Whenever Jane tried to ask her mom during dinner or any other time they met, Margaret would just brush it off by giving unconvincing answers.

Jane became upset and her suspicions grew intense. Why was her mom not sharing the reason for her change? Had she got a new friend now and was as she dating that person? After being divorced from dad for years? What was the reason for her happiness and change in outlook?

Jane decided that it was time that she shared her faith to her mom, be what the consequence. When her mom had the right to change, so can she, reasoned Jane. So she wrote a letter to her mom and went to her room to leave it in her mom’s drawer.

Jane opened the drawer where she found an envelope addressed to her. Surprised, she took it and opened it to find a letter, hand written by her mom.

“My dear beloved child Jane,

I had been longing to tell you for a month that I had tasted the Lord Jesus in a new way. Now I have realized how wrong I have been in knowing Him and following Him. I didn’t know how to share this with you, for I was unsure of how you would take it. Though you asked me at times, my fear was whether I would be laughed at.

I attended a women’s convention that my friend took me to a month ago and when I attended those five days Women’s convention, I took Jesus as my Savior and Lord.

Now I visit my friend’s place for Bible study, prayer meetings and also for fellowship gatherings. I often meet other women of the same kind, to learn more about the Lord. I know you were anxious about my new change and was wondering what had happened to me all of a sudden.

Believe me honey, what I have known and tasted is true and I hope that one day you will taste Jesus too. Even as I write this, I pray for you and bless you.
Love Mom.”

Tears rolled in Jane’s eyes for having misunderstood her mom. She knelt down and asked the Lord for His forgiveness. She felt ashamed of herself and murmured “You have truly tasted Him mom”.
