My grief stricken Christian wife, who was very loving and caring, used to warn me against my behaviour:
“Daddy, your behaviour isn’t good. You need to change your ways.”
She could say with tears trickling down her swollen face after I had beaten her. I used to turn deaf ears to her wise words.
One day, I had a brawl with two bouncers at the gym. They beat me up, forcing me to flee for dear life. At home my wife was so loving and caring that she washed and dressed my wounds before taking me to a Doctor. I really got touched in my heart by her love and care for me, even though I treated her like a slave.
Next Sunday morning as I slept in the bedroom nursing my wounds, God revealed what I called REAL FATHERLINESS in a dream. There was a Pastor preaching in a church:
“My message today is focusing on Fathers, because they are the heads of families like Christ is the head of the church. So Fathers have big roles to play. Fathers should be exemplary to their families. Just like Jesus who was a good example to the church, we as Fathers we need to live the way God loves. A father should be very caring. A Father should be very respectful and have his family at heart by providing all the basic family needs. God gave men great strength. Fathers, you weren’t given that strength to misuse it, but to toil for your families. You need to protect and teach your children the right ways of God,” He paused.
I felt like my heart exploding within me. It seemed as if the Pastor’s words were only directed to me. I looked at my sad wife and children who were seated beside me. I decided to repent from being a bully Father. As I was enjoying my dream, I felt someone shaking me to wake me up.
“Daddy woke up! The children are singing for you!”
I heard my wife calling from afar waking me up. I also heard sweet voices of my children singing by the bedroom door. That is when I realized that indeed I had been dreaming about the Pastor. The children continued to sing:
“Daddy we love you,
And we care about you.
Daddy we need you.
That’s why we say:
Happy Father’s Day to you.”
I rose and headed to the door. There I got a shock of my life. Each of my three children had a wrapped present for me. I opened the presents one by one. I liked my little son’s present most. It was just a Father’ s Day card with the inscription:
‘A LOVING FATHER IS A LOVED FATHER. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY’
I knelt down and kissed my sons. As I kissed them, it pained me in my heart, why I was very ruthless to my family who so loved me. I decided to show them a bit of love and desist from being a monster father anymore.
“What day is it today?” I asked the kids.
“It’s Sunday and it’s Father’s Day,” replied my wife.
“I will go with you to church,” I said smiling.
My wife leapt with joy and hugged me. She could not believe me.
At the church the Pastor prayed for me for repentance. My wife and children embraced me after the prayer. I could read their relieved faces.
“No more torture my family. I have the true essence of real fatherliness now,” I said looking at my happy family. At least my wife and children could come closer to me without any fear, knowing that I was now a changed father.
What a wonderful and exciting Father’s Day I had? I won’t forget this experience. My wife and children threw a party that night to wind up the celebrations for Father’s Day with a changed father in their midst. What a nice experience?
