No glance, no voice, no name.
A smile had once caught my eye.
We were strangers all the same.
Like ants we worked in diligence,
Our routines were much alike.
In a world of high intelligence,
We competed with all our might.
We spent our time inside our minds,
And strained to do our best.
If we could only burst these binds,
But the world accepts no less.
One day I saw her sitting there,
A tear drop in her eye.
My heart sadly felt aware,
But again I passed her by.
"What could I say?" I ask
"To this person I don’t know."
I dip my head as I pass,
And hurriedly I go.
Suddenly I understand,
And felt my own disdain.
This lady needed a helping hand
She was visibly in pain.
In courage I sought to approach,
And offered her my interest.
I was hoping I didn’t encroach
On something not my business.
"I don’t wish to bother you,"
Hesitantly I start.
"I would really feel a fool,
To ignore a breaking heart."
She smiled through her tears,
And put her hand on mine.
She would share all her fears,
But that would take some time.
I look back on that day,
To a stranger in great need.
Christ had put her in my way
And she returned the deed.
She had become a friend,
I would love forever.
We stuck it out through thick and thin
I had almost lost this treasure.

This is beautiful. Too often we pass by others. Who knows? Maybe the Lord put them in our path for a reason.
Thank you for writing this.

Greater attention to the meter of the poem would help it read more smoothly.
I enjoyed this reminder to follow the Spirit's leading.
