Dark clouds appeared in the horizon of my life, one day.
So dark I couldn’t make myself see His light.
A battle for my soul ensued and I didn’t know where to turn.
It will all work out for the best,
you’ll see, is what they all would say.
In my heart of hearts, I knew it was true,
but my mind refused to believe.
Doubt and fear became my constant companions,
as God seemed very far away.
“Why?” I asked. “Are you angry at me?”
“Have I’ve been so bad?”
“I don’t understand;
why I’m in this dreadful place?”
“It’s only a trial,” I would hear the LORD say.
“Be still,” I would hear Him whisper.
“I’m in control,” He would reassure me.
“Let me fight your battle,” I heard Him plead.
“Don’t believe the lie,” He commanded me.
Still I struggled, feared and fought.
The more I struggled the bigger the pit I dug.
Thoughts too hideous to utter, invaded my tortured mind.
Waves of terror, and pain crashed against my being
The pit was so wide, so deep, I prayed, “Lord would you take me home?”
“Do not be afraid, nor dismayed,” I would hear Him say.
“Be of good courage,” He advised.
“Wait on me,” He pleaded.
“Don’t look at the pit,” He admonished.
“I love you,” He consoled.
“I am with you, do not fear,” He assured.
“LORD!” I cried, “I have no strength.”
“Hold on to me, let me carry you to safety.”
“Lean on my promises for they are true.”
“My word will never fail you; it will stay firm,
It will accomplish that which I send it to do.”
“But what about these thoughts, Lord?”
“My love for you is greater than that.”
Again, I would plead, “but what about this other one, Lord?”
“Can you forgive such a thing?”
His seemed sad at my unbelief,
“my love is greater than your sin.”
“Nothing is going to take you away from my love.”
“I’ve bought you with my own blood.”
I beheld the weighty hammer pound nails through His precious hands.
The sound pierced through my very heart.
With a crushing thud the cross fell into the ground.
Agony contorted His holy face,
“Just for me! Just for me!” I cried,
He suffered it all, just to set me free!
He looked and saw my tears; my need was vast,
My arms grew weary; fierce was the battle within.
He dispatched His angels; gave them charge over me
Provided rest in the mist of the storm,
Kept me safe ‘til it was past
He healed my soul from pains of old.
Forgave the sins I’ve done.
Tears of grief He tenderly wiped away
Loving me in spite of myself
The storm clouds dispersed; the sun shined through,
Bringing light to my once dark world.
He put my life together again; more than that,
Made it new and complete, the way He created it to be.
“You are my child, never forget,
I will be with you ‘til the end of time.
