TITLE DAD’S LETTER
Tired and sleepy after a long day at school, I walked to the mailbox to pick up some pictures that my girl friend had put in the mail. I was surprised to see a small envelop from home. What was the reason for this? Mum and I had talked on the phone at 7A.M. this morning. There was no mention of this letter or its contents. I opened it as I walked to my room, and the contents made me sad. Dad was trying to express his feelings to me because I got poor grades in high school.
After his short lecture, he wrote, “ Dad is mad that you have bad grades, it makes him sad.”
Life at school was smooth sailing and both my parents were happy with my performance. But after a recent car accident and head injury I just don’t seem to do well academically. Most people who knew me before expect better work from me. But no one seems to understand my limitations. Its not that I want to do less reading or research for each paper but it takes so much more time and effort. I want to make my parents proud of my grades even in college. Dad pays all the fees for the residential school so expects me to do my part. I am often sad and at times mad at myself.
From early childhood I have been regular at Sunday school and church. The joy of being a born again Christian has enriched my life. Reading God’s word and the close knit family helped me all the time even during the months in hospital and recovery. The joy of the Lord has always been my strength. Today as I read again my dad’s letter I am sad because I have yet to make him glad. How can I make up? What should I do to change the sadness to joy? Only my Lord can direct my path. I will talk to dad and assure him that I will do my best, with God on my side.
“My help comes from the Lord which made heaven and earth.” Psalms121:1
