Remising the lives of young and old
The story of two lives crossed
One saved, one lost
They'd been friends for years
Been together through laughter and tears
As the years so quickly passed
Their friendship became a memory past
Each grew and walked his own way
Until they met again one day
After the death of a departed friend
They wondered where the years had went
If this moment was a gift God sent
The tears broke, left to freely fall
For time had seemed healed a crumbling wall
They offered an unsure smile
Saying nothing for a while
"I am sorry it's been so long. It's just that in this place neither you nor I belong."
One shook his head, “It’s different now. I've been transformed somehow."
The other gasped, "You've become one of them."
"No I've been saved from my own sin."
"How long has it been?"
"Nine years, maybe ten."
The Christian replied, "After our friendship changed, the gift of Christ I received. I've prayed for you so long before. Please these warnings do not ignore.
It's never too late to share his grace. For that is why he took your place."
The other laughed and said, "What does this God care if I am live or dead? Does he care the pain I've suffered through? Or what I say and do?
I don't need his gift, especially not now. When judgment comes I will make it through somehow."
“You're just one of those selling a gift. By pretending to heal this broken rift. To ease the guilt you suffer through. It is something I will never do.”
Walking out that church door
Little did he know there was more
On his knees the Christian prayed
Telling God he was sorry he'd been delayed
If only he'd spoken to his friend years ago
Maybe his answer would have not been no
They each drove in an opposite directions
Each one choosing a destination
This night God required both lives
To neither man should it have been a surprise
Both were summoned by the Lord
Standing judgment before the Holy Word
The Christian knelt before the throne
Into his Savior's embrace was welcomed home
"I know your words and your deeds. The manner in which your life was perceived. Your life devoted to me and your reward you will soon see."
God turned his head
And the other's heart filled with dread
Just hours ago the gift he refused to receive
His heart was hardened he did not believe
He hung his head in sorrowed shame
For he'd refused the Savior's name
God cried, “For you it's too late. You've sealed your own fate.
By ignoring me your whole life through."
"No Lord," he replied. "That cannot be true. Send me back it cannot be too late. I will ready my heart for heaven's gate. I will say yes to your gift and it will I receive. I will spend my life helping others believe."
God shook his head," A life is only but once to live. Your decision I cannot forgive. Your life is over and done. Depart from me because you didn't choose my Son."
Into hell he was sent
Into heaven the other went
Two lives crossed
One saved, one lost
