And the awful hand of fear grips your soul again
You seek a place of solace from the battle in your mind
But constant torment and endless pain are all that you can find
Days become a blur and emotions wear you down
Peace seems to elude you and just cannot be found
And so the battle rages as sleep and hunger flee
Your heart cries out to end the war in an agonizing plea
Why is God so silent when your need for Him is great?
Why do you feel empty, why does He say, “Wait”?
You turn to friends in hope you’ll find a comrade by your side
Someone to walk abreast of you, a warrior true and tried
But although your friends surround you, they cannot comprehend
Exactly how you’re feeling and just where you have been
There’s no way for them to understand the pain you feel inside,
The depression and anxiety you no longer try to hide
You fight the fight as though you are an army of just one
You feel like you’re outnumbered and the enemy has won
The hope that flickered in your heart not so very long ago
Is just an ember in the ash that barely gives a glow
In desperation you surrender to the pain and fear within
You cannot go on fighting; you have no strength to win
Around you bullets fly as you fall down on the field
The life within you pours out …then God becomes your shield
His arms move in to save you and heal your wounded heart
He floods you with His peace, never to depart
He lifts you in His arms and holds you close to Him
He takes away the pain and places comfort there within
He arms you for the war and sets you on your feet
Hope has been restored, your armor now complete
With the helmet of salvation and the belt of truth in place
Your arm holds high the shield of faith as you look into His face
His Word becomes your weapon and the enemy must flee
God’s righteousness protects your heart and sets your spirit free
You realize that He’s been with you even in the night,
When things were at their blackest and you lost the will to fight
You now know that even when you cannot see His Hand
Your heart can still have confidence that for you He has a plan
The battles are not over, yet you fight not all alone
His strength becomes your weapon and victory He’s foreshown
