The day picked for shopping for her perfect dress had arrived. Armed with her vision and sketch, she and her friends embark on the anticipated adventure. Now, shopping is a talent we girls do well. Shopping for the perfect wedding dress, well that’s shopping at its finest. As they walked into the bridal shop, dresses in every style, shape, texture, color, from every designer from around the world were displayed the right lighting, mirrors, carpet down to the right background music. It was like walking into a little girls fantasy land, filled with lace, beads, pearls, bows, ribbons, organza and silk. Breathtaking and a little overwhelming. Her eyes roamed over the many dresses, heart beating a little faster, her hands reaching out to lightly touch the fabrics. Clutching her vision of the perfect dress, she searches each one glancing through racks of designer dresses in hope of the one. She moves towards the back of the store, something drawing her there. There were a few dresses standing alone. Each one beautiful. She found a few dresses she liked, each one with a detail of the dress she had envisioned herself wearing. The saleslady showed her to the dressing room, its size of a large bedroom with 3600 mirror, plush carpet and a chair for the bride to rest on. When she emerged from the dressing room, her friends smile. It’s beautiful they say. Yes, she agrees but it’s not the one. She tries on another, then another and another. Each one beautiful but none are the one. A little heartbroken she turns and notices a woman seated with a handful of tulle exploding onto her lap. She is smiling as she sews the last bead on the full skirt. Yes, the seamstress says, it is finished and it’s perfect. She walks towards the seamstress, reaching towards the dress with tears in her eyes. This is the dress, she whispers. It’s even more beautiful than I envisioned. As she gently touches the fabric, her well-worn sketch falls to the floor. The seamstress reaches down to pick up the sketch and gasp with joy. The seamstress looks with tears in her eyes and says it’s for you. You are the one whom I made this dress for.
As they put the dress on the bride, the seamstress stands beside her admiring the dress, they both knew it was the perfect dress, needing no alterations. Then the bride glided across the floor, a vision of white, beauty, grace and love. She was transformed. Her friend’s stood in awe, aching to touch her, but not wanting to defile the vision they were seeing. The perfect dress, the perfect bride.
It’s been 25 years and Kim still touches the fabric, runs her hand upon the last bead placed in her presence by the skilled hands of the seamstress. With a smile and tears in her eyes remembering that day, as if it was yesterday.
Then Jesus quietly speaks to Kim’s heart. “I know your heart. I placed the vision of your heart into the heart of the seamstress for you. Each stitch she stitched was guided by My Hand, for you. You are still a vision in white, beauty, grace, and love, to Me. I had this dress made just for you, Kim. Each stitch was stitched in My perfect love for you. I did all this for you, Kim.”
