Don’t Leave Home without Him

Dear Family,

Just a note to tell you we love and miss you, wishing to tell you briefly about our trip. It was the trip of a lifetime for us, and we were excited to be traveling from south Texas deep into the Canadian Rockies. Carefully packing every needed item into our small travel trailer, we wondered if we had forgotten anything of importance. Climbing into our vehicle we evaluated our needs.

Thanking God for providing the means and allowing the trip, we then ask Him to go with us all the way there and back, protecting you and friends at home, as well as others and us along the way. On this trip we learned exactly how important it is to not leave home without Him.

Not making reservations to camp each night, as we didn’t know how far we wanted to travel each day, at first became a challenge. Each time we needed to camp we prayed for an open place for us. Once we found the camping spots full we began to pray more diligently for an opening in the next area we wished to stay. Time and time again the Lord provided the last spot or an opening in the overflow area. From the first provisions we felt totally confident that He would provide, without reservations. We never ceased to be amazed at His wonderful provision and freely thank Him.

Near Denver, He literally was our lifeguard. We were in heavy traffic on a busy freeway when we were caught in a dangerous situation. There were vehicles beside us and behind us when a big dump truck pulled into the lane we were in. Daddy used wisdom in not pulling into the outer lanes with sure disaster. He could not throw his brakes on or someone would plow into the rear of us. He immediately started applying the brakes at a safe pace and honked the horn while out of urgency yelled at the truck driver- as though he could hear. This shock awakened me from deep sleep on the seat just behind him. I saw the truck coming up in our face. We both quickly cried out for help from the Lord. The van came under control almost instantly. Once more we thanked God for His mighty protection.

There were two motor homes and a large truck, side by side, on a steep upward slope. All were having a difficult time making the grade, and were going slow, but no one could pass them as there was oncoming traffic. Suddenly another truck passed us traveling at a high speed. It looked as though the faster truck would ram right into the slower truck and that it would not be able to keep from hitting it at full speed. Daddy cried out, “Oh, Dear Lord, please save those people.” At that very moment the fast truck came under control. We both shouted, “Thank You, Lord!” Daddy’s simple and quick prayer was answered instantly. We have learned to be alert and ready to cry out to the Lord. He is more than willing to answer our pleas.

We have seen so many picturesque sights and enjoyed things we have never seen before. From the beginning of the trip we saw, to name a few, “The Promise” a play at Glen Rose, Texas about the life of Jesus, the beautiful Palo Duro Canyon in the panhandle of Texas, sights in New Mexico, the maybe most beautiful state in the immediate 48 states, Colorado- Rocky Mountain National Park along with hundreds of other sights. We saw Little Big Horn Battlefield, and the openness of Montana. Crossing into Canada we visited the Continental Divide, Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Takakkaw Water Falls, Althabaska Glacier Ice Fields, Jasper, and Maligne Canyon-along with many other amazing sights. On our way back we saw Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Jackson Hole, and so many other scenic views we could never name them.

Some unique animals we saw were wild bear, giant elk, a red fox, and a herd of buffalo and many more.

We are almost home and will probably arrive by the time this letter reaches you. We hope someday you will be able to enjoy the same trip. We will tell you more later.

The best and mightiest of all was the Lord God Almighty at work. We are grateful to Him for traveling with us on our vacation.

I really like the letter format--letter-writing has become a lost art! And it almost read like the narration of a slide show. A few typos to clean up--and it's perhaps a bit weak on topic. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading this vacation narration.

Not sure the story fit the topic, but nonetheless I was curious to read what would happen next. I also enjoyed the letter writing style and the spiritual journey. I did need to reread a couple of lines to understand a point. Mind you, only a couple of line, so the rest was a good read.

Missed the topic of "Lifeguard", but a travelogue for the family members back home; which I'm sure they enjoyed. Thanks for sharing your travels with the family at FW.
