In the middle of my children’s school lessons were my life lessons. Like waking Caleb up only to find an old dent in the wall with a new twist to it- sheet rock was peeled away from it. That was how the day began. Well, not entirely true. It began with some very spiritual thoughts about accepting whatever comes my way as God’s will for me. Right away, I knew I wasn’t going to like God’s will. God is teaching me to accept His will, and how resistant I am to that.
I really didn’t like God’s will when I walked into my kitchen free of all care….only to notice David with my worn-out Magic Eraser in his hand attempting to clean an entire bottle of white-out off the wood floor. OK, at least it wasn’t the year old carpet already abused by muddy feet. God is teaching me……to find things to be thankful for in every circumstance?
Later, not late enough, my sweet David spills a whole can of coke on the chair and the floor. God is now teaching me……… I need to drink water, not diet coke?
While cooking lunch, I decide that I need some peace and quiet, so I asked Josh to take David upstairs – which, by the way, is really high up from the ground—and watch him. David wants the window open, so Josh opens it (a big question mark in my mind!) Josh then comes down to inform me that David pushed the screen out of the window. “Um, WHERE is David?” God is teaching me……… that my children need lessons on safety?
After lunch, David is so quiet. How nice….better check. Oh, he’s being nice- he’s sharing the baby formula with the cat—good since no one else likes to take care of the poor animal. But, I don’t like the formula all over the floor. God is teaching me….how to use my vacuum cleaner????
Caleb gets distracted while doing school work and begins drawing smiley faces all over his face……and Sissy’s face…Sissy’s 5 month face. God is teaching me….what a smile looks like?
For the brief moment my bathroom is unlocked, (yes, we lock our bathroom door- you would too if your husband had to remove the toilette only to find a razor and a bar of soap blocking the plumbing!) David has enough time to decorate my bathtub, floor and drawer with my loose face powder. That’s good for my drawer, it needed some more ideas since I still had a spilled bottle of fingernail polish stuck to it. The polish was clear, come on, we need some color hear! God is teaching me…..how to decorate?
The day is complete when Mikayla throws up on me. God is teaching me…..how much I love her, and how fortunate I am…that although my house does not look like a model home, it is full of wonderful little people…and some not so little, and a man who is stellar.
