We all start out in water and then following a sudden gush of fluid we are thrust into a raging rapid. A boiling tumultuous flow of the human race filled with rock like obstacles and the ever present fear of drowning. We follow the winding flow kicking and screaming for the first few years. Then, we kind of get used to it and just float along taking in the scenery. Before to long the serenity of our existence is threatened by a waterfall which disrupts everything we are used to and turns us upside down. After nearly drowning and swallowing half of the river we find out which way is up and drag our beaten, bruised, water logged bodies to the shore. We lie there awhile, then muster up strength only to slip on the muddy shore and fall right back in. No matter what we do, we just can’t seem to get out of the water. Along the way we are accompanied by many others just like us, all trying to stay afloat. If we survive all this, the water eventually calms and widens into a pleasant tranquility for most of us. After floating along and basking in the glorious sunshine for a while the water begins to get cold. We soon discover that the entire trip is over far too soon and we are surrounded by ice. To tired to continue swimming some give up and drown, others find new strength and kick for a little while longer only to end up just as the others.
After the deep, dark plunge we wake up to find ourselves facing another river. This one is clear and calm as crystal. On the other side is a bright, brilliant being beckoning us to cross over. Those of us that make it thorough this river will bask forever in His glorious light. Those that are unable to reach the other side will reside forever in a different kind of river; a river of fire.

All in all, a very apt and fitting essay.
