Oh how I loved to read
I could be a queen one day
Or the heroine in need
The best books then did fill my mind
and my imagination did feed
Oh, how I wanted to write these books
And be a great author indeed
One day while I surfed the net
And much to my delight
FaithWriters came upon my screen
What a joy to my sight
A group to read my many words
And a critique to boot
And wow, a weekly writing contest
This website is a hoot
As if these wonders were not enough
To please my writers mind
It was to write of Christian themes
The most precious words I find
What type of writing do you like
fiction or non are found
Submit a story in the critique circle
your critiques will then abound
Do you need a writing course
To hone in on your skill
Go to a FaithWriters teaching class
And it will fit your bill
And I haven’t even told you yet
The very special news
There are many who want writers
And pay you for your views
There is a place to go and chat
With others of some fame
I try and try but I can’t get in
I’ll keep re registering my name
But the first thing that caught my eye
Instant gratification I guessed
That weekly writing challenge looked fun
I thought by far would be the best
So I wrote my first fiction story
As excited as I could be
I Almost had the story down
close to the end I’d soon be
I finally found the word count
I needed words to spare
The ending needed many words
I sat stunned and in despair
How could this have happened
My eyes became blurred
this computer must be at fault
I had over 1200 words
I had a surprise ending planned
This would never do
I tried to open my window
From this spot my pc flew
No wait, I can’t throw my pc out
Work to do and better start plotting
My story line was growing vague
my story was turning rotten!
My head began to throb and pound
I took an aspirin from my purse
My story needed to be cut in half
I then learned of the 750 curse
I worked for hours on the piece
which precious words to cut?
They all seemed so important
I had fallen in the 750 rut
I must be harsh, delete some words
Work hard to keep my plot
The adjectives were the first to go
A descriptive story it was not
My husband looked and gave a smile
I’ll admit I was terse
I scowled at him across the room
And told of the 750 curse
“You will have to read my story
When I’m finally done
You will need to critique for me”
He looked so very stunned
“I don’t know if that’s a good plan
I really don’t read much fiction”
“Besides what if I give a bad review
We might have to much friction”
“No,” I smiled, “I can take the truth”
He said “I’ll give it all my might
He shook his head, and muttered these words
“I wish she had never found this site!”
Finished, The story was finally done
And it had been pretty rough
“Come and critique my story, Dear,
And promise to be tough”
I waited in eager expectation
Fidgeting in another room
He came out looking rather stunned
Had my story just been doomed?
“I could not follow several things”
“Why was there a line about a cat”
I explained the part I had to cut out
“Well your story never told me that!”
I learned a lot from that first piece
And had lots of fun
Lots of cutting and rewriting
It really can be done
FaithWriters please hear my plea
Is there any chance at all
That the seven hundred and fifty curse
One day you might recall
To finally have some extra words
would be an awesome treat
Our endings would not be so rushed
And life would be more sweet
Well I guess I had my say
and poked a little fun
I love the FaithWriters site
My words are gone, got to run
One last thing I would like to ask
And this is not to blame
How in the world can I get on to chat
I keep reregistering my name
