And I stood still,
Before Pilate,
Expecting a plea;
A plea to get me free,
A freedom that costs,
That costs your freedom,
So I thought,
I thought of you;
Formed in my image,
Same image my father called 'good.'
And I stood there still,
Waiting,
Waiting for Pilate’s verdict;
And I remembered,
I remembered I am, the Good Shepherd.
And I walked still,
Like a lamb,
The Calvary’s Lamb;
Speechless to the slaughter,
Smacks and spanks,
Bruises and blows,
‘No mercy!’ they shouted,
No mercy for the sinless;
Sinless birth,
Tender friend,
Still lead away in thorns,
Striped of clothing;
I remembered you,
Naked at Eden,
Needing back father’s Glory.
And I hung still,
Cursed on a tree,
There on Golgotha’s hill;
Chastised for your peace,
Pierced for iniquities hiss,
Nail borne there,
Watching till the finish,
The finished offering;
For the right to be called sons,
Sons of the most High,
The right to live above,
Above death and sin.
So I remember;
That today you’d call me,
Both Lord and brother.
