Belonging to a community meant living by certain rules, guidelines and traditions. It meant speaking a specific language in a particular way, showing courtesy in a particular way, engaging in distinct activities, indulging in certain practices, performing peculiar rights and organising certain ceremonies.
Belonging to a tribe meant living by the rules and doctrines of that tribe alone. And the mark on her face was a reminder of where she comes from and who she belonged to. It came with the sense of pride and dignity but not for long, at least not for all the members of the tribe.
Ahemma always felt proud about her mark, horizontally seared on her left cheek to show every one the tribe she belonged to. And would always pull her hair up so it was visible and no one would miss it. But in a new world, among a new group of people, without knowing, she had picked up their culture, their tradition and language. Her every action was dictated by their rules forgetting you she really was. Like everyone else, she would wake up every morning and look into the mirror as she applies different powders to her face not realising that she was covering up her precious mark.Days went by and a few people started to notice the mark, then she felt ashamed of it.
Suddenly she felt branded and that was no longer cool.
Deep within her, she loved to belong to her tribe but she was too ashamed to show it because all the people around her didn’t have it or didn’t show it.
Though the mark was seared on her face, it was more importantly seared deep within her heart. The love she felt for her people, family and King was priceless. And for a little while, she had forgotten what it meant to show her King and people that she loved them. The best way to show her love was to be proud of who she was and to show others who she belonged to.
It was time to show the mark again, to speak her language and walk by the principles she had been brought up with.
Because she belongs to a Kingdom whose King was her Father and whose people were family. She had a Father who had a mark on Him to show how HE loves her.
How could she forget to love Him back by showing off her mark and by granting the one request of her King. That many may know Him through her as she walks proudly showing off her mark and living by its rules.
She was branded for life. A mark on her face for all to see and a mark deep within her heart with the inscriptions of CHRIST.
She is from the Christian tribe and not ashamed.

The mark a Christian should have is, first, love in their heart and then love in their actions.
I did like how you put the story together.
I found your MC very intriguing. I think using dialogue would have shown more than told about tribal customs.
