Only yesterday her husband announced that after thirteen years of marriage, he could no longer remain stuck with her. Their little house, their mundane office jobs, and their childless state were all factors he spoke of. But in her heart she knew better. He was leaving because of God.
Jael's co-worker friend Haven kept reading the Bible during lunch, causing Jael to wonder if someone really could find an ancient text relevant. After a few weeks she approached Haven shyly and asked about Scripture.
"Oh Jael, I've never found anything more comforting to read." She had smiled genuinely. Even more amazing, Haven gave Jael the very Bible she was reading. Plenty more at home, she reassured.
Jael started in the Psalms and soaked up the words which nourished her very soul. Truly, she could not put the Book down. Soon she began to attend church with Haven, finding the community a calm and inviting environment to learn more about Jesus.
Her husband, Kevin, however, did not like this change. He accused her of deception, since they were both agnostics when they met. Kevin told her she was abandoning him for a cult with all the time she spent at Faith Community.
With a broken heart, Jael would seek the Lord, begging that her love would also find Him. Alas, their relationship grew more strained in the few months since her life changed. She wanted to know God and he wanted escape.
Jael sighed for her future alone from Kevin. But she knew that at this crossroads, her God would not abandon. In this corner of her life, the pain of lost love promised to become a dimly lit memory. Weeping, she kneeled to the ground and cried out to her Savior.
Jael cried out between broken sobs, "I have nothing but you, Lord. I have nothing but you." In that instant she knew, healing comes for the broken.
