At a rest home near Carden
Where a man sits alone in the shade.
Though his legs are immobile,
His journeys are global
On the keyboard he's borrowed from his aide.
While others are napping,
His fingers are tapping,
And as their rhythm begins to ebb,
He throttles his glider,
Descends like a spider
To land on the internet web.
There he ferries in Nice,
Views Meteora in Greece,
Strolls the Yu Garden paths in Shanghai.
Hikes a trail in Nepal,
Tours the great Taj Mahal,
Views Palm Islands by air in Dubai.
He soaks up sun in Cancun,
Rides a hot air balloon,
Tracks a grizzly and pans gold in Nome.
Swims with dolphins and whales,
Traveling rivers and rails,
'Til the dinner bell calls him back home.
As the sunbeams are leaving,
In the twilight of evening,
His aide helps him settle in bed.
As his eyes fall to rest,
Dreams recall all the best
Of the places he's been in his head.
In the deep dark of night,
He takes off on a flight
To a world far beyond cyberspace.
Leaving earth far behind him
Where no sickness will find him,
Touching down in a heavenly place.
Though the morrow brings tears
Of the man's lonely years,
And his friends grieve and offer up prayer.
They were sure they'd outlast him,
But in truth he's moved past them
To the home they'll eternally share.
