At the age of five Vicky recalled how her life changed drastically when her mom told her one rainy day, her daddy had to go away for awhile. In spite of all the sleepless nights she experienced listening through paper thin walls to her parents arguing, Vicky wanted her daddy home with her. So as the days turned to weeks, months, and eventually years, she finally accepted the fact, her daddy was not coming back.
All who knew Vicky in her high school and college days would readily agree this young lady had it really going on. She was easy on the eyes, with a pleasant smile, and a quirky out going personality. but with one exception; Vicky would not commit to any long term relationships. She laughed to herself as she recalled the crazy saying she used to say,” I must guard my heart, in case they depart”. Vicky had this invisible “Stark Trek” type force field round about her, which would shut down if anyone attempted to getting close to her. The phobia behind her dad leaving, left her in a constant panic mode of abandonment.
And there was her mom Carol, forever dropping hints about the day she c an spoil and dote over her non existing grand babies. Like a lioness watching over her cub, she would cry out to God, “My soul wait silently for you alone, for my expectation comes from you.” (Psalm 62:5 nkjv) mom had faith to believe in due season, God would one day chip away that veil encircling her baby girl.
Due season came in a way Vicky never expected when Pastor Strong asked her to assist in the Children’s Ministry one Sunday morning. As long as serving was not connected with the Wedding Ministry she would work. Many have heard her say time and time again, she planned on staying single and become the female version of the Apostle Paul. When she arrived, there was a young man in the waiting area attempting to braid the hair of a very energetic little girl. When he looked up and smiled at her, something within melted. Feeling flustered and numb at the same time, she remembered backing out of the room, only to bump into Pastor Strong. In the introduction, she found out the newcomer to their church was Tom a widower of two years raising his five year old daughter, Caitlin.
Long story short, The more Vicky attempted to put a wide berth between Tom and herself, the more she found herself in his lane. What finally broke the chain was a passage in the book of Acts which kept coming to her mind, “He is a man after my on heart, who will do all my will. “ (Acts 13:22 nkjv) She knew than, God had sent her the right person she could commit to.
Now a year later, Vicky felt the gentle nudge of her grandfather Karl alerting her, it was time to start their walk down the aisle, where Tom, the chosen one in her life was waiting at the alter to remove the veil.
