When I was growing up at home, we had a preacher who was also married to my mother’s cousin. He would often say, “I’ll only be a minute.” If someone else would say that, we would ask for clarification. “Is that an Andrew minute?” I don’t think he ever realized how long his minutes were, even though he was given some good natured teasing.
The perceived length of a minute does seem to vary. When doing something we enjoy, it speeds by quickly. On the other hand, if what we are doing is not enjoyable, each second seems like minute.
The Lord perceives time quite differently. A thousand years are like a day to Him. His mercies are new every morning. Our times are in His hand. We should make good use of the time/minutes He has given us and so live as to be witnesses for Him. We need to proclaim His message. whether the time/minute is favorable or not. We need to be patient in convincing, rebuking and encouraging those who are lost. A minute may make all the difference.
