Zachary was an adopted child. He came to the Smith’s through foster care from parents who already had 12 children, and when they found out that Zachary had Cystic Fibrosis and would need a lot of extra care they decided they couldn’t take care of him. The Smith’s were trying for years to have a child of their own but were unsuccessful. The pastor of their church was notified about baby Zachary and approached the Smith’s about the possibility of taking him in. Feeling a tugging at their hearts the Smith’s began praying about it and when they finally got the opportunity to meet Zachary God confirmed that this was to be their child. He, like this puppy was the last of a big family, All alone, innocent, and precious. When Mrs. Smith reached to pick Zachary up out of his seat He immediately reached towards her with a treasured baby smile on his face. They took Zachary home that very day, willing to care for his special needs. When the option of adoption came up, Zachary had worked his way into their hearts so deeply that they jumped at the chance.
Seeing Zachary with this puppy made his mom’s day. Her son’s love and rescue this puppy was a gift from God. The process of love and acceptance came full circle at that moment. Two situations that looked black and grim were transformed by God’s grace, into the bright light of joy and love.
“Well Zachary” Mom said as they drove home with their newly adopted Pup. “What will you name her?” Zachary thought for a moment. “I think I’ll call her Hope.
Because I hoped I would find just the right dog for me today and prayed God would lead me to her, and he did!”
Zachary and his black ball of hope grew together. Hope was by his side through his breathing treatments, waited for him after school, and was the first one he ran to after his hospital visits. Two orphans, friends forever. Both started their lives in a dark place only to end up shining brightly as stars in the black of night.

I love the parallel between the puppy and Zachary.
