Topic: Winter (the season) (08/13/09)
Winter’s Awesome Lesson

The lush green carpet of the nearby woods has been cover with the carpet of a mosaic of colors, red, yellow, brown and gold. The once busy green trees that were filled with the life of birds, squirrels and other living creatures are now quiet. Shorts and tee shirts are replaced by jeans and coats. God again is getting ready to teach us an important lesson for life.
For the change will continue with the colorful carpet on the floor of the woods being replaced by a fluffy white one, with everything looking bleak and almost dead. In the midst of this comes a celebration of life, joy and expectations. Music will sound, laughter will be heard, and sounds of life will resound through out the woods and towns. God’s presence in a small town ages ago has changed, at least for a little while, the mood and feeling of the season.
Pondering on this, I think about how in just a few more weeks birds will return with the sound of life. The carpet will change again becoming lush green. Flowers will add the smell and beauty of life to the air. But a larger more important picture fills my mind, a reminder of a different life touched by the changing hand of God.
My life, at times like the woods has many changes from joy to fear, from praise to tears, and sometimes my heart seems to go through a winter of the soul. But by God’s grace, His presence, just as it does during the Christmas Celebration breaks through and changes the feeling and gives hope and life.
Winter’s awesome lesson, that by God’s grace and wonder and power, life comes after death, joy can follow tears, peace can come from fear and the creator , the life giver, is all ways near.
