I was on top of the world, invincible; nothing can stand in my way now or so I thought. Then Sherry called. Sherry was my girlfriend of two years, two months and one day. She sounded frantic: “Meet me under the Davis Dam tonight at 6:00, she cried.” What was wrong, I wondered. Her voice was shaking with hesitation and fear.
I remember my whole life crashing down before me as Sherry explained how her parents were getting a divorce and her mom is moving to Colorado, two States away! What were we going to do? We loved each other. There was nothing we could do, I wasn’t even 17 years old and Sherry was barely 16. We said tearful farewells. We never saw each other again.
Life does go on, but try and tell that to someone who just lost their first love.
I am slowly learning that life has many ups and downs, highs and lows. Now, I choose to focus on the highs and learn from the lows, enjoying every day because life is a journey not a destination.
