“Morning, Nikki.” Her best friend, Jessica greeted.
“Good….” Nikki stopped in mi-sentence as she stared at her desk. On her desk was a baby tree.
“Where did this come from?” Nikki asked Jessica.
“Don’t know and but there is a note.” Nikki took the note from the tree and read it.
“’Hint: this is for you.’ Well, that doesn’t make any sense.”
“Any idea who it is from?”
“None.” No more was said as class began. All day Nikki pondered who the giver was and what the note meant. She was not the most popular girl since very few knew she existed. She just hoped it was Brandon, the guy she had a crush on.
“Hey kiddo, how was school?” Nikki’s father asked when she arrived home.
“Well, great. But, uh, I got a gift.”
“Oh really? Who’s it from?”
“I have no idea, but there was a note with it.” Nikki informed her father and read him the note.
“Well, set your stuff down and let’s go over to your grandparents for dinner.”
The next day at school, Nikki received yet another gift. This one was two bars of soap that had the brand name Dove printed on the front. Some of the kids cruelly teased her for it. The third day was three toy birds in Santa hats that sang Winter Wonderland every time you passed by them. The fourth day was a CD called Nature’s Calling and the track, calling birds, was played over the intercom. The fifth day, Nikki received five gorgeous rings. Sixth day was six geese lying in the snow. Seventh, seven glass swan ornaments. Eighth day, eight cartons of milk. Ninth, nine ballet shoes. Tenth were ten movies all about dancing. Eleventh day, eleven pipes. Now all the gifts seemed to be increasing everyday and every single one had a note with it that would say something like, “I love you” or “Do not fear” etc. But because of these gifts, she started to get attention from the other students.
On the twelfth day and the last day of school before Christmas, Nikki entered the building once more, expecting the next gift. However, when she arrived in her class and at her desk, there was nothing there.
“Ah, I started to like these gifts.” Nikki commented to herself. Suddenly, there was announcement over the intercom, informing everyone to go to the auditorium.
“What’s going on?” Nikki asked Jessica.
“I don’t know.” Jessica replied.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, please take your seat. This is a gift to Nicole Shellman and we hope you all enjoy the show.” Nikki was shocked. This was the biggest gift yet. The lights dimmed and the curtain began to rise. Everyone gasped at the surprise.
“The Blue Man Group!” Nikki shrieked with excitement. Indeed it was the Blue Man Group and they were playing on twelve drums. After the show, a song started to play, the Twelve Days of Christmas. It was then that Nikki realized the gifts were related to the song. But that was not the biggest surprise of all. Her father came out onto the stage and sang the song. Tears burst from Nikki’s eyes as the song ended.
“All of these gifts were for you, Baby.” Her father revealed. Nikki ran onto the stage and hugged her father tightly.
“Thank you Daddy. This has become the best Christmas ever!” And indeed, it was the best Christmas ever.
