TITLE: Seeking Truth and Needing Divine Intervention | Previous Challenge Entry

“Yes after you've done all you can, you just stand”. As I sat there listening, hurting, and inwardly crying, my mind wondered off. The melody and the words faded into the background. Mr. Curiosity was now awakened by the bantering of Mr. and Mrs. Frontal Lobe who were at odds over the meaning of STAND.
Mr. Lobe: “Now I have been standing for several years, so what does that mean? I’m from the “Old School” and stand means to put both feet flatly on the floor, straighten your legs and position your body vertically to the floor. When I was a baby, around 2 years old, I learned to stand on my two feet. At first, I started standing either with the help of my parents, a friend or the nearest piece of furniture. I was not that good at it at first and I would fall down a lot, (thank God for well-padded diapers), but would always get up and go at it again. As I got older, my standing got better. I can now walk, jump and run all by myself, but I’m still confused about what stand means in the song. ‘Cause if you be left standing when all your friends done turned and run, you won’t be standing for long.”
Mrs. Lobe: “Babe, you have to think outside the box. It is obvious it means something besides physical standing. Think about it, hon --- this is a popular gospel song written by a popular gospel writer with the help of the Holy Spirit. Do you remember the first time you and the Holy Spirit said, ‘howdy’? I think God sent him to help you stand when you were just a babe in Christ. Also God gave us His word and our pastor-teacher for spiritual teachings to help us learn more about submitting to authoritative, nourishing directive of God. At first, we struggled, but now since we don got closer to the Lord, we are stronger and got staying power. We don’t worry about falling or about tomorrow because in the bible, I think ah, flipping through the index, Matthew 6:25-34 says God got our back.
Mr. Lobe: “Sweetie, you are so good to me. I’m glad God brought us together. You’re just the helpmate I need to help me understand all them fancy words. Now tell me again, what fer we be standing.”
Irritated, Mr. Curiosity interrupted, “Read Isaiah 53 and you will see that the purchase price was incomprehensible to people, excruciatingly painful to Jesus, yet providentially planned by God. God did all this for the fulfillment of His plan and eternal life for us so we could stand on sovereign truth and navigational discipline from the word of God. Now that’s true love of a husband for his bride. Now hush up so I can hear the preacher!”
Although the conversation ceased between Mr. and Mrs. Lobe, my thought waves were still in overdrive. As Christians, we stand on firm foundation; such as:
Saving Grace - God’s Righteousness and Christ’s Execution
Trust in the Lord - Total Reliance upon Supernatural Truth
Agape love from God
Nutrition, spiritually from the word of God
Death, burial and resurrection of Christ
Can I help a sinner or anyone for that matter to stand? Can I teach anyone to lean not to their own understanding, but to lean on the word of God for answers to all of life’s problems? In John 21:17, Jesus requested that John feed His sheep; consequently, did He request that of us also and what do we feed them? According to 2 Tim 3:16, God’s word teaches us what is right, what we did wrong, how to get right and how to stay right.
