Have you ever had anyone who loved you unconditionally?
Warts and all.
I thought that it was only achievable with God, not possible with mere humans.
And yet into my world came such a woman as this.
A little round island lady (sporting a tattoo on her right arm) and a smile that seemed to give you a hug.
She had the softest way of speaking even when giving you a healthy dose of reality.
Her hug was like a warm shower on your cold soul. Her words like honey to my spirit.
A gentleness that belied her strong character.
I thank god for her. She was always there to answer my questions, hear my problems and give me a mother’s hug when I needed it.
I came from a very cold family.
We definitely didn’t do the touchy feely things.
When you grow up in that environment its hard to let anyone else in.
But god knew my needs and me. She was the one used to bring me to him and for many years she was my wonderful spiritual mum.
All the wonderful qualities that I try to be as a mother she had in abundance and I hope that I could be half the mother she was to her family and me.
The best part is that through Helen my own mother got to know Jesus.
I learnt what it is to be a believer at her lap each day. “Father knows” and “fathers will” were common words in her vocabulary
I always felt excepted as I was in her house.
It wasn’t as if she didn’t have kids of her own, she had four in fact.
The youngest, grant is mentally impaired and others would call him handicapped but I don’t think so, not with Helen as his mum
For me she personified the word “Mother”
So when I saw the topic for this week, it was her smiling face that lite my imagination and made my fingers fly to the keys.
