“God is allowing my confidence to increased… drastically!”
This statement may not come to our ears as a surprise by an immature Christian, but it may take you back by someone who has known the Lord for 23yrs.
Our confidence is often coupled with our own abilities. Statements are often overheard at church functions similar to these:
“I can sing with the best of them.”
“I know that I can do that job better than she can. After all, I have a lot more experience than she does.”
“Why in the world would he ever entrust them to that ministry anyway?”
“Don’t worry, you can bet that I know what I’m doing.”
“You guys go ahead and pray. I’ll probably be done by the time you get done praying anyway.”
Hmmm?
How often we do things for God in our own strength?
Let me tell you something that I struggle with. I have a lot to offer. I have been a Christian concert promoter, a Sound and Lighting technician, an Acoustical Engineer not to mention various skills to do with construction. Drywall installation, Framing, Tape and texturing just to name a few. Music has always been a passion of mine as well. Singing came easy, so did drumming and guitar work. Song writing and poetry flow through me with little effort.
Before when doing these things I didn’t know the Lord. And, now that I do I can say with the utmost confidence… “SO WHAT!”
All that it taught me is that I know how to do some things, but most things that God requires breathes obedience. Not by the ability of being able to, but buy His grace to be willingly stretched to the point of breaking, so I might call upon Him for His help.
Anyone can operate in the gift of God in his own strength! (Not that you would necessarily be anointed to do so.)
Let’s see what happens when we are asked to part the Red Seas of faithfulness, forgiveness, willingness, in humility without our prideful gifts.
God IS truly allowing my confidence to increase drastically… in my ability to entrust my weakness to Him for strength.
