Before blacking out completely, I remember thinking, "My new master, who is my new master..."
Then I saw him. The lord of this world. Lucifer. Do not ask me how I knew, maybe it was the way he looked at me or the knowledge that I had gathered on such spiritual things, but I knew. I was in Hell, and he was Satan. I would have never known it was him by sight. He was tall in stature and very strong. His hair and his eyes were jet black. He wore what seemed to be a solid silver breastplate as if he expected to go to war at any moment. He seemed to emanate all the colors of the rainbow. And his voice. His voice was so calm and cool. It was such a trustworthy voice, yet it had an element of deceit in it. Lucifer reeked of evil and treachery.
"Come with me," he said, "and I will explain everything to you. Believe me we have all the time in the world."
Finally, we came to what looked like a large lake and smelled like a cesspool. El Fin de Vida is what he called it. The End of Life - what a comforting name. Along the shoreline there was a boat. There was no other way to cross this lake; therefore I had to muster the courage to climb into the boat with him. Just the two of us…me and Satan…alone in the middle of a vast lake.
"So, you would like to know why you were sent here, why your name was not written in that Blessed Book, huh?" He gave a smirk that sent shivers up and down my spine. "That is a question that is easily answered. You said that you were a good person, did you not?" That, my son, is the essence of me and my comrades. Deception. Make you think that what you were doing was really not that bad, that it would be looked over if you just did one good thing to cover it.”
"Good," he said as the boat landed on the other side of the lake, "we have finally arrived."
I looked. It was the same stuff I had seen before. Rocky crags, deep caverns, flowing rivers of stench. Yet something was different. It was hot. Hotter than anything that I had ever experienced. The heat seemed to originate in the ground. At the same time as this thought was passing through my head, the ground in front of me began to shake. Finally, the land gave and opened into a great pit, a deeper part of Hell, to my gaze. I saw a multitude of famous murderers from de Rais to Dahmer. Then I saw something that brought tears to my eyes. The majority of Hell was filled with those who I thought were basically good people. Most of my dead relatives were here, and they were devoutly religious. It was all true. Hell did not play favorites. They were all here.
Two fallen angels came forth from the fire. They took me by the arms and carried me into the furnace. Immediately, I felt the pain of the flames and I began to scream. I knew that I was screaming very loud, yet I could not distinguish my voice within the multitude. The fallen angels then put me in shackles and chained me in place. The ground began to close and I began to weep, weep with a grief from the deepest part of my soul. Through my tears, I could still see the Prince of Darkness, laughing a diabolical laugh. I was utterly alone. Yes, I was with a vast sea of other wretched souls, but I was alone. Alone with an eternity to think, to think of what might have been...
I awoke slowly. The light hurt my eyes and my head really ached. All that seemed dull though in the light of what I had just been through. By God's divine grace, I had been given a vision of what was to come in hopes that I would change. As my vision began to clear, I saw my family huddled around me and I was filled with immense joy. I had been given a second chance and this time things would be different.
