Nondescript goat was she–never to reach a fame.
A bottle baby, bought long ago with some others.
She grew close to my heart; why? That doesn’t matter.
Years passed by too quickly; my friend was getting old.
She had many babies, too many to be told.
One more breeding was all, then a life of leisure;
My girl had earned the right to graze in my pasture.
Delivery time here, Cutie brought forth a boy.
There were too many tears where there should have been joy.
The baby was beautiful, full of life and charm.
Cutie licked her baby, but then she laid down calm.
A new bottle baby, given as her last gift.
I will raise your baby as you would have seen fit.
Willie is now my friend; he comes running to me
When I enter the field, together life to see.
Happy to lay and nap, side by side in the grass
I thank my Lord above for the memories past.
Memories now to make with Cutie’s little boy
This shepherd’s heart is pleased; time together, our joy.
Looking up in the sky, feeling warmth of Willie
As he snuggles so close; he’ll make a great billie.
Content in the shepherd, knowing his trust secure
I realized something more: there’s a Shepherd Who’s sure.
He, too, wants my friendship; to lie in His pasture
Snuggled up next to Him, feeling His warmth so pure.
Fellowship warm and sweet, I thank and give You praise
For Cutie Pie, her baby to learn from and raise.
You are my Good Shepherd, I understand that better
My time is Your desire; help me to remember.
Let me run to Your side when I am a hungry
Let me lie next to You; My God, I give glory!
Then one day, face to face, I’ll gaze into Your eyes
And finally understand why my Shepherd would die.
The love of a Shepherd for His wondering sheep
These memories I have, Father, help me to keep.
To walk now close to You; Your love revealed to me
Through life, death and a life, I see Love through Willie.
