I used to dread when my infant son would awaken suddenly in the middle of the night. Now I enjoy the time I get to spend with him and I think he enjoys the time with me. He has long ago mastered the art of sleeping through the night, but sometimes he needs his momma’s arms.
After checking his diaper and making sure nothing was seriously wrong, I pick him up and gently sway back and forth. Then I start to sing our song, Hush Little Baby. The melody of this song soothes him as we sit down to rock.
After all these months, I still don’t know the correct words to the song. I make up new words every night. But that doesn’t matter. What matters most is in that moment in time, we are enjoying being in each other’s presence.
I enjoy everything about him from they way that he smiles at me to the way he kicks his feet when trying to fall asleep. The tiredness I felt earlier fades away as I thank the Lord for my sweet boy and rejoice in who God made him to be.
Sometimes I have been so worn out by life that I feel like a baby in a crib. I feel like I can’t do anything for myself and I just need my Heavenly Father to pick me up and hold me. He does better than just hold me, He rejoices over me.
Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is with you, He is might to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” (NIV)
I don’t know what song the Lord will sing to me, but the song and the words are not important. What is important is that the Creator of the Universe will take the time to comfort me and sing to me. In that moment in time, nothing else matters because I am in my Daddy’s arms.

I'm glad you don't know the words either. What joy it will be to finally know them.
God bless and keep writing.
