“Sure,” Mary replied. “Even though I dreaded the actual ordeal of giving birth to our three lovely children, I am so glad each time we celebrate their birthday, which really is an anniversary of those days.” “Okay,” Jon added. “Now I’m starting to understand your question better. I remember when we were only dating but celebrated the anniversary of our first date each year. We had such a good times.”
Mary added, “There’s always times such as when our insurance policies anniversary dates come up and they sure don’t seem to forget to remind us in plenty of time. While I enjoy the season, there’s always the day when I start working on the anniversary card list.”
“What?” Jon asked. “I don’t follow unless you are referring to your dreaded Christmas card list. That is the day we celebrate Jesus’ birth.”
“Exactly,” Mary explained. “Just like we are celebrating our wedding day by remembering it each year, we are celebrating the birth of Christ on Christmas day. The actual day is an anniversary of that glorious day. The same goes for Good Friday and Easter. I am not mailing out Christmas cards that announce that His birth is about to happen. I am sending them out rejoicing that He was born. Likewise, when we remember the day when we asked Jesus into our hearts, we are not celebrating our spiritual birthday but instead an anniversary of that spiritual birth.”
Jesus was born, did die and was raised so that you may have a spiritual birth. Have you taken advantage of that tremendous opportunity? Do you remember Him daily and thank Him for being there for you every moment of each day? He’s there for you 24/7, not just once a year. You don’t have to wait until the date of His birth on earth to take place. Jesus will live in you forever if you only ask Him to and you make a place for Him in your heart. The first time will be considered your spiritual birthday. After that, celebrate you spiritual anniversary of that day. Remember to give Him thanks each and every day of the year just as He has given you these times to recall His grace and mercy to you.
