What do we do though when it is not about us? What if God puts a burden on your heart for someone? My first response to this call is to pray ceaselessly and then wait for God’s intervention, but what if this burden breaks your heart while your waiting and all you can do is watch with tears of pain running down your face?
These are the times that I write, and I keep writing until the pain that I am feeling for someone that can’t speak for themselves is answered. So today I am speaking the for the small five year old child that can’t ask his mom why he has to take so many pills, who can’t tell her how the new pills is making him feel inside his head.
She thinks he has no feelings and that he doesn’t notice when the kids at school laugh at him when he wets his pants because the medication he is on doesn’t give him that sensation anymore, but he does. He probably wonders why when he is finally able to run around like the other kids he has to go take another pill from the school nurse to quiet him down and to stop being ‘out of control’.
It started out as a simple diagnosis of ADD and he is put on medication, then just when he is ready to start kindergarten his diagnosis is turned into high spectrum autism, and along with that he needs to take yet another medication three times a day to stop him from moving around so much.
When you think he has enough brain altering medication in him, an antidepressant is introduced because he cried when he saw his mom take off on a plane on a three-day trip because he wanted to go with her. In my day that was called ‘love’ now it is called anxiety and depression.
What happened to the little boy that use to jump off furniture like superman, or made someone chase him all over the house to catch him to get in the bathtub, a buddy who would sneak into a room with the TV controller and change the channel and run. What happened that little boy who would pretend to sing into a microphone using a hairbrush.
He is the perfect kid now that everyone wants him to be, but with my daily devoted prayer and by Gods grace, protection and power I know this little boy will get his childhood back before he never gets the chance to experience it at all, and I am going to keep on writing until my prayer is answered and it doesn’t hurt anymore.
