Topic: Valley (08/10/06)
The mountaintop broke its head through the blanket of the clouds like a lion out of a savannah. Its towering pate of rock glimmered full of grandeur in the sunbeams. Naked to the sun and free to the wind, its role was sovereignty, its emblem…awe-filled majesty. Its voice roared out along the pathways, off the treetops, and down, down into the valley. The sound was the trumpeting of the high winds; sort of what a person hears when one has crossed the threshold of the common and everyday, and stepped into the light of the lofty that evades a person’s spine in one sharp jab. All nature harmonizes in a sort of music which those that have ears can hear. This mountain was the sound of high and distant bugles being blown. It was the music of the sublime. It was the sound of an angelic chorus. Appearing in this mountain’s heights were bright beings flitting here and there in proud parade and pomp. All these angels contested to the splendor of this mountain.

Such were the sounds booming from the mountain to the ears of the valley. The valley sat deadened like a shadow at midday. A low, murmuring broke from the depths and the bottom plain of this valley. Music of a deep, slow melody arose in muffled solemnity. It’s sound was that of emptiness; if emptiness should have a sound. Its main lament was how come it must drag behind the mountains in splendor. How come it was designed for the opposite of glory? Surely God made a mistake in making it so lowly. But instead of angels singing in this low-altitude wilderness, you found people.

One old man came trudging along, instead of singing, he was mumbling. “Me! What good am I? I’m only good for this barren land. God must see my life as a complete failure. But what’s this bush up ahead that looks like its on fire?” This old man disappeared not too long after that.

Later, this young man came running through the valley. He was scared, tired, and panting for breath, “Where shall I go? How shall I continue to live like this? Surely God has abandoned me for now I run about like a hunted rabbit, when I should strut about like a king!” He, also, disappeared not too long after that.

And still later on, another man came standing in this valley. His head hung down, as he occasionally shook violently. “I don’t want to go through with this. I fear this, which I’ve never encountered before. I’m terrified of the separation, of that great black void that’s tearing up the earth. Papa…I will do this…but I hate to leave you for one single moment.” Afterwards, this man also disappeared.

They say this same man went up the mountain like the others…but up in this mountain, he executed a dazzling feat of engineering; he lifted a huge rock, blocking a stream outlet. The waters flooded down the mountainside and sent those crystal streams down, down into the valley, where it washed away much and gave water to all life there. Now this white water stream releases music as it collides into rocks and gives smooth shape to them. This valley’s music is just as glorious and joyous as what can be heard from the mountain. There are times when it is hard to tell the difference between the two. Both harmonies of music mingle into one sublime symphony.

You have a way with words...but I'm puzzled as to the meaning of this allegory. For example: ...the light of the lofty that evades a person’s spine in one sharp jab... I'm really unclear about that, and the disappearing men. I really encourage you to keep writing, though, because your wordsmanship is apparent.

Good job. I think you must have meant "invade" and not "evade". But small error. Over all I found it very intriguing. Those men without a doubt were Moses (the old man), David (the young man) and of course, Christ (the final man). All of them are portrayed going through the valley before they go up to glory (the mountain). Christ causes the glory to be accessible to those in the valley. Nice work.

This is simply awesome. I can't think of another name for this. The imagry was beautiful, awe-inspiring. Wonderful.
You won't be in beginners long with work like this. You are destined for great things with God. Keep up the good work.
