TITLE: In a Micro Moment of Time | Writing Challenge By Linda Goergen 04/21/22

He lay back and roared with delight,
as another bomb dropped,
and he watched
the leader
delight
in the fright,
and the plight
of those targeted,
and he thundered
“The arrogant, vain clod
cannot
see
the deed was not his,
but mine
ordered with a simple nod.”

He paced, barely containing the thrill
of seeing another teen ensnared,
and he watched
the abductor
lie,
the girl cry,
and her dreams die
in the twisted fantasy
and he screamed,
“The vulgar scum
cannot
see
the deed he’s done
was ordered
by a mere lift of my thumb.”

He smugly sneered and cheered,
as another virus was engineered,
and he watched
the biochemist
pour,
adore,
and store
the agent of death
and he smirked,
“The egotistical nerd
cannot
see
the deed was done
not by his skill
but by order of my word.”

He danced, singing his own praises,
as the drugs were sold,
and he watched
the dealer
dole,
control,
and console
the latest one hooked,
and he snarled,
“The peon patsy
cannot
see
the deed was set up
by decree of me!”

He howled and clapped
at all the horror and crime,
he could unleash
in a micro moment of time!

“So many fools
that cannot see,
I am ruler of earth,
it is controlled by me!”
He sang out with great mirth
“They had a way out,
had protection
from my commands,
they rejected it
and are now in my hands,
my playthings
doing my bidding,
like puppets on strings.
I will encourage their sin,
I will use them to win”

with beguiling sweetness

a soft prayer
drifted by

“Satan you are defeated”

and he, unable
to weep,
did creep,
then fell…
under the weight of
the words,
the truth,
the agony,
the hollowness,
the knowing…
the knowing…
the deep within knowing,
the SCREAM provoking
KNOWING...
the one he once loved,
and now hated,
would ubiquitously
and eternally
be
the
final and absolute
authority...
...
...
...
NOT
he.
