I have wandered down the sock aisle and wondered how much thought is put into their manufacturing. There are packages of eight pairs, all white, or all black, or all gray. That certainly solves the problem of one getting a hole in it or being assigned to the abyss. But it is terribly boring. I have another idea to offer. Instead of wearing matching socks, why not coordinated pairs. One could be pink and the other mauve; or a light blue and a navy blue.
There could be pairs where one would have dogs on it and the other bones. Or one sock could have a holiday pattern and the coordinated one would have stripes or polka dots of a color in the holiday pattern. Schools could coordinate by pairing one sock with school sport or mascot and the other with just school colors in bands or dots, or solids. Pairs could be interchangeable. Thus if one sock becomes unusable, the other could be paired with a spare from another coordinated pair.
Am I making myself clear? My intentions are not to confuse. I just want to offer a solution for those doing laundry, then finding just one lonely sock. I would not be surprised if anyone should miraculously locate that great abyss where socks so often go, there would be endless combinations of socks that could be coordinated into new pairs!
The sock industry wouldn’t have to make too many changes by going to coordinated rather than same socks in a pair. Those dull same color socks make wonderful puppets!
