Sometimes I have to reach across centuries and cultures to liberate the essence of what being aligned with you means to me. The simpler the better. So, remember me on my best nights; embrace the tangled web of joy and ecstasy that gallops through your soul; miss me like the howling wolf under his full moon; breathe in my scent like the child a rose; soar with me like an eagle on the thermals; treasure the strength, courage, goodness and hope we have pillaged like pirates from the chaos of our community; overwhelm me with endless wonder like the wildebeests on the Serengeti; fill my world with rainbows, stars and fairies.
And grant me but the simplest of wishes. To cherish the softness of your hair against my cheek; to bathe in the lavishness of your kisses on my lips; to drink in your silhouette against the azure skies; to nestle close like a chick against a hen; to hover as a hummingbird over the sweet nectar of your deepest self; to battle against every competing interest so that you alone are at the center of every value and desire.
As Rupert Brooke once said: “I have a thousand images of you in an hour; all different and all coming back to the same. I think of you once against a sky line: and on the hill that Sunday morning. The light and the shadow and quietness and the rain and the wood. And you. Your arms and lips and hair and shoulders and voice – you.â€
Drop your heart into the well of my love and know that it will never find the bottom. You and I together are the Almighty’s masterpiece – his design and desire to alert the galaxies of his passions and his plans for the best of the best.
Your letter lies before me, alone, drawing all my energies to suck in its sweetness and yet, I sit, speechless, consumed by realities that avalanche across my mind and spirit. I have questions without answers. Your portrait stands gilded with glory unfathomable and unmatchable. The tears course down my cheeks knowing that your glory now may even be greater.
As Warren Harding said, “I hurt with the insatiate longing, until I feel that there will never be any relief until I take a long, deep, wild draught on your lips.†And yet, the Sahara’s barrenness is an ocean compared to the emptiness that sucks the life from me. For, there will be no more kisses, no more alluring encounters, no more spooning under streaking skies.
You are the sweet flower whose glory has faded, wilted and vanished from my garden. You are the unchained heart that has galloped away like a stallion set free. You are the eagle who has flown above the thermals into the very heart of heaven.
And on my tongue lie the words of the one who had a thousand choices but heard from one who was the perfect match. “Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.â€
And a rose on your resting place will never be enough. The happiness I needed flowed through me like a river until now. And now, the match we held together, to light the candles of our celebrations, that match has cooled to ash. An eon of words cannot express the depth of you and me together. I relish the memories of what was, what is and what will yet be.
Only the confidence of resurrected life permits me now to put pen to paper and heart to hope. For, love that was is still and always will be released, unanchored, to sail the memories of eternity. We were a match made in heaven waiting now to flame again.
Accept Jesus as Your Savior Right Now and be Certain of Eternal Life.
