TITLE: The Prince's Pawns | Writing Challenge

The Prince of Darkness' pawns have sought e'er since the world's beginning
To trap unwary ones in silken snares of lies they're spinning.
The Lord, at times, may stimulate desired growth by pruning;
The Prince's pawns prompt heartache solely for malicious wounding.

If apathy, distraction, aren't sufficiently derailing,
Then soon with selfishness or greed they'll likely be assailing,
Or cords of jealousy and envy they'll be busy wrapping,
And reeling out resentment, your contentment they're entrapping.

The demon of discouragement, a favored pawn for threading
The needle of anxiety with anything you're dreading,
Finessing follicles of fear for everything you're fretting,
And bind your mind with chaos, your Prince of Peace forgetting.

If bonds of bitterness aren't cut, the pawns will soon be binding
And weaving them with ropes of wrath tugged tight, your spirit blinding.
Let not the pawns of darkness and destruction come and linger,
For then the Prince of Darkness has you wound around his finger.

Dear Holly, Thank you for this piece which spoke directly into my situation tonight. This stanza ministered to me: "The demon of discouragement, a favored pawn for threading The needle of anxiety with anything you're dreading, Finessing follicles of fear for everything you're fretting, And bind your mind with chaos, your Prince of Peace forgetting." I too like your use of the word 'wound' in its varying form. A well deserved winning piece. Well done!
