FaithWriters.com news and information for the write-brained Christian!
"Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. 'Honor your father and mother' is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, 'so you will live well and have a long life.'" – Ephesians 6:2 (MSSG)
There are many ways for us to honor our fathers as the Bible instructs. But sometimes life gets so busy that we neglect to tell them how much they mean to us. Father's Day offers us the perfect opportunity to do just that. Take a moment to thank God for your earthly dad, or for a man in your life who has been like a father to you. Then thank your heavenly Father for adopting you into His eternal family.
Check out the Out of the Mouths of FaithWriters section at the end of this newsletter to see what your fellow writers would buy for their dads if money was no object.

WEEKLY WRITING CHALLENGE
All good things must come to an end and the Weekly Writing Challenge is no exception. No, no, no--don't panic!—it's not ending forever! But, the 4th quarter wraps up this month, which means the end of another year of Challenges.
BUT…the end also brings with it a hefty dose of excitement! On July 1st, a new BoB (Best of the Best) will be crowned. Who will steal the title from reigning champion, Ann Grover? Will Ann keep her crown (yes, she does have a couple entries in the running).
For those who aren't familiar with the Best of the Best, here's the gist of it: All of the #1 Editor's Choice Challenge entries from the past year (40, total) are judged according to particular criteria. The top three scores receive a nice cash prize ($300, $100, $75) and, of course, the author of the highest scoring entry has bragging privileges for the next 12 months as Best of the Best!
The winners will be announced on July 1st!
You still have a couple weeks left to qualify. Enter the Challenge for your chance to put yourself in the running. http://www.faithwriters.com/myaccount/wc-submit.php

There is an exciting contest exclusively for FaithWriters Platinum members? The Page Turner contest is a "first chapter" contest, which is judged based on the best "page-turning quality." This year, the focus is on fiction, so now is a great time to do something with that novel you've completed, started, or want to write. The winner takes home a fabulous prize package (including free editing and $800 cash)! The deadline is October 31st, so there's plenty of time to enter.

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF FAITHWRITERS
Last month we honored our mothers and this month it's Dad's turn. In the May newsletter, I asked this question:
IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, WHAT WOULD YOU BUY YOUR DAD FOR FATHER'S DAY?
Here is what some of our fellow members had to say:
"Given that my dad were alive and money was no object, he would be 'over the moon' to receive his 1956 Belaire, stolen on Christmas Day, that same year. It was his baby, washing and polishing it every Saturday morning. After the theft, when the family was out and about, we collectively eyeballed each aqua and white Belaire that passed, looking for the one with the missing "B" on the side. I'm still looking." – Norma Jean
"If money were no object I would buy Dad a new pair of eyes so he could see his kids when they come to visit this Father's Day." - Celeste Duckworth
"My dad is an avid golfer. At 78 he still can golf his age! So, I'd get him a trip to all the best golf courses around the world - St. Andrew's in Ireland, Pebble Beach in California, Augusta in Georgia, etc. Of course he'd have to take his favorite 3 golfing buddies with him, too. I'd be his favorite daughter for the rest of his life!" - Julie Buter
"My father just passed away in February 2011 (and we still miss him terribly!). But if he were still here, I would pursue my dream of giving both him and my mother a treat to Jerusalem. We'd follow Jesus' trail together."- Charyl
"My Dad passed away 13 years ago and even though I miss him at times I wouldn't change that for all the Gold in Fort Knox! Why? Becuase he's with Jesus, and I wouldn't swap that for anything! But I will take a few minutes to reflect and maybe call Mum to tell her I'm thinking of her as I'm sure she misses him still." - Lawrence Hebb
"I would definitely buy him all my and siblings childhood years he missed out on. May he rest in peace. And also…to my step dad I give all the appreciation in the world for ADORING my mom." - Omahlubi Mangele
Next month's question:
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE SUMMER?
Send your brief response to [email protected]. Please keep your answers to 1-2 sentences. Check back next month to see if your answer was selected to appear.
ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF FAITHWRITERS.COM. KEEP WRITING FOR THE KINGDOM!
