TITLE: For my Father By Tara Rolfes 05/18/08 |

For My Father
There's a light- the shinin' bright kind
and of all things I cling to most
it's the possibility of reaching that end
of this madness covered by a caving tunnel
so in my haste for sweet serenity...I trip
and I can't explain to you why I bang myself against these walls.
I don't know why I keep taking the same roads
with the same alleys, same extremely deep pitfalls,
the kind in which I am almost always swallowed by
and I don't know why I clasp onto Your rope
perhaps it's the hope that resides in that ally?
But I think still- it's so much more
because after every window is slammed
there flings open another door-
and that's no coincidence, I'm sure.
And sometimes in the piercing silence
Between the long hours of midnight and dawn
I close my eyes to my mind's violence
and am comforted by the safety in Your arms.
After all, I think You watch out for me
far more than anyone ever should.
Or at least for more than anyone ever would...
And I am trying, even when I hit the bottom of the floor..
thank You for never giving up on me.
Because, no one's ever done that before.
