ENCORE
I watch
a royal carpet grow
as one by one
the purple flows,
across the yard along the path,
I see her smile
and hear her laugh.
A ritual
of early spring
her step is light
a violet fling
and merrily
she labors on beneath
an ever warming
dawn.
Some call her just
a jaunty thing
impetuously caroling,
out of step, but just
in time
this lovely violet,
friend of mine.
If some sad spring
she did not come
my heart, my soul
would be undone for she
is Heaven’s word
in bloom
that life eternally
resumes.
