TITLE: Visiting Grandma By Linda L Creech 10/08/06 |
|
Sitting here beside this cold stone,
tracing over and over your name,
I can't remember one
Christmas present
you gave me
all the years before.
But, I'll tell you what
I do remember.
The paper doll cut outs
you saved from your
monthly magazine,
just for me,
French toast smothered
in sweet sugar or
Chicken ala King
for lunch
my daily nap you insisted on
and the music box you played till
I drifted off to sleep.
I remember, autumn walks
through colorful leaves,
your hand and mine
softly snuggled together
the sweet smell of talc
as I rested my head
against your breast
and the sound of your heart
beating a clear melody.
I can't remember one
Christmas present,
But ~
I remember all the gifts.
