TITLE: A Farmer's Faith By Linda L Creech 10/06/06 |
|
I stood aloof and silent
a distant life away,
watching a farmer and his wife
stand in their field and pray.
She closed her eyes, bowed her head,
clasped her dirt soiled hands,
his posture was humility
as he bowed to God’s command.
Somehow across the parched,
dry earth,
I heard their humble prayer,
“Dear Lord, we thank Thee
for these crops,”
but I saw nothing there,
save a few potatoes, dried and small
and two worn farmers,
that was all.
The sun anointed evening sky
with settings after glow and through
the field the farmers walked,
toward home,
I watched them go.
And as I turned to walk away
a raindrop gently fell,
I turned my gaze up to the sky
as rain clouds started to swell.
While I had doubted sinfully,
God was even there, the farmers
knew that miracles come with
their faith in prayers.
