It’s been said
In the past
No pain, no sorrow
Nor heartache last
That times a filter
And a thief
That takes the hurt
And binds the grief
Two years have gone
Since you went
And this time
Has left me bent
At work, at play
And at rest
I drag on
And try my best
Searching, looking
For a light
Something firm
To hold on tight
Where you are
I long to be
It seems so far
Is there a key
Just one breath
Between us two
One breath away
To be with you
I listen closely
For your voice
To spur me on
Toward the choice
Another day
Another year
Still no voice
Do I hear
The longing grows
My heart it fails
As time erodes
Each day’s a nail
I look upward
For some hope
In the darkness
My soul does grope
Then He speaks
I hear Him say
I’m here my son
A breath away
