TITLE: Just two pieces of wood By Keith Wallis 04/13/06 |
|
Just two pieces of timber
rough hewn
solid
blameless.
One upright,
one scarred with sweat,
wounded with blood.
Just two pieces of wood,
unrelated,
fused together,
destined for one moment in time.
Once majestic trees,
defiled in heart.
Innocent trees condemned to death
then
generations of revulsion.
Immortality,
not for baring leaves,
but for the body
hanging like Autumn;
out of season.
Easter.
The universe could hear
screams of protest
from these reluctant trees
forced into the interlocking fingers
of death
and the purposes of man.
