TITLE: The Colors of the Sky

So many of us are so busy with life that we rarely take time to see the beauty of ordinary things and some of us are lucky enough to have a child in our lives to remind us that beauty is everywhere.
His faith is pure. He believes without question or doubt of any sort. The stories of the Bible excite him and he asks to hear them again and again.

He is my son.

There is a lot we adults can learn from a child. They put their hearts 100% into everything that they do. There are seldom any motives and the world still excites them.

Every day in the car my son points out the colors of the sky. He does this without fail.

“Look mommy! It’s pink today!” he says, just as excited as he was when just yesterday the sky was painted in various colors of green.

Often I’m much too busy driving or focused on the traffic to even pay attention.

“Yep! It sure is” I always say, sometimes not even looking.

How lucky he is to be able to pay close attention to little things. But why can’t I?

I suppose my reasons could be that I’m too busy paying bills, making dinner, driving from one place to the next or bogged down in that dreaded pile of laundry that is always waiting for me. But really, there is no valid reason.

Would it kill me to actually pay attention to those things from time to time? No. It wouldn’t.

Every night I read him a story from his Children’s Bible. His eyes light up as Moses parts the Red Sea. I’ve read the story to him many times and each time he seems a little more excited than the last.

Lately, I’m ashamed to say, I don’t get excited about the Bible. There are times when I’m so busy looking for a certain passage to read to my Wednesday night youth group that I don’t even really pay attention to the message.

There are so many things in the world to be excited about, we’re just too busy to see them.

So, next time I am scrambling through my Bible I am going to pay attention to the message.

The next time I read about Moses parting the Red Sea, I am going to get just as excited about it as my son.

And the next time he points out the beautiful hues of the sky, I am going to look.
